Palworld 1.0 is out now — and it dropped slightly ahead of schedule, going live on PC, PS5, and Xbox this morning just before the official 12:30 PM JST window. After two and a half years in Early Access, Pocketpair’s creature-collecting survival game has officially left the building.
If you’ve been holding off on buying in, or if you’re already one of the 40 million players who jumped in during EA, here’s everything that actually changed — and it’s a lot more than just a version bump.
The World Tree Is Finally Open
Here’s the thing: that massive, towering World Tree has been sitting in the background of Palworld since day one of Early Access. You could see it. You couldn’t reach it. It was basically the game trolling you for two years straight.
That’s over. In 1.0, the World Tree is fully explorable and anchors an entirely new endgame storyline called The Sealed Calamity. It’s the first time Palworld has had a proper narrative throughline to chase after you’ve built your base and caught a few hundred Pals.
Alongside the World Tree, Pocketpair added Sky Islands — a new aerial biome that, combined with the World Tree area, roughly doubles the playable map size. That’s not a small deal for a game that was already enormous.

72 New Pals, New Mechanics, and Some Redesigns
The biggest single batch of new Pals ever added comes with 1.0 — 72 new creatures, most of them tied to the Sky Islands and World Tree environments. If you grabbed it on sale during the Steam Summer Sale, you’re walking into a genuinely different game than reviewers played at EA launch.
Worth noting: Pocketpair also redesigned a handful of existing Pals that had drawn comparisons — some might say very close comparisons — to Pokémon. The tweaks are subtle in some cases and more noticeable in others, but the intent is clearly to put more visual distance between the two franchises.
On the mechanics side, two additions stand out:
- Genetic Recombination — a new breeding system that lets you combine Legendary Pal genes to create unique, powerful Pals with distinctive traits. This is going to be the new endgame grind for anyone who’s already maxed out a base.
- Wing Pack — an equippable item that gives you gliding and aerial combat capabilities without sacrificing any of your five Pal combat slots. That’s genuinely smart design; it would’ve been easy to make it a trade-off.
And yes — PvP mode is finally here. Dedicated player-vs-player battles have been one of the most-requested features since launch. No more sandbox workarounds; it’s a proper mode now.
Who Gets It, and What Does It Cost?
If you already own Palworld through Early Access on any platform, 1.0 is a free update — just update the game and you’re in. For new buyers, it’s available on Steam and the Microsoft Store for PC, the Mac App Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Pricing stays the same as EA.
We covered the launch announcement in detail earlier this week — our earlier preview has the full breakdown of what Pocketpair had teased going into today. The actual content ended up matching almost everything they promised, which is not always a given.
For anyone playing on a budget setup, it’s also worth making sure your display isn’t the bottleneck — the Sky Islands in particular look significantly better with good refresh rates and contrast. Our roundup of the best screen for it under $200 has some solid options that won’t break the bank.
What Comes Next
Pocketpair hasn’t announced a post-1.0 roadmap yet, but given the game’s track record of regular updates during Early Access, more content is almost certainly in the pipeline. The Sealed Calamity storyline wrapping up the World Tree arc feels like it closes one chapter — which usually means another one opens.
For now, though, 1.0 is a genuinely massive drop. Two new biomes, 72 Pals, a real endgame storyline, two new mechanics, and PvP — all free for existing players. Whether you’ve been playing since January 2024 or you’re just picking it up today, there’s a lot to dig into.
