Apple Intelligence iOS 27: Every New Siri and AI Feature Coming This Fall
APPLE NEWS
Apple’s most ambitious AI upgrade yet is taking shape. At WWDC 2026 in June, Apple pulled back the curtain on the next generation of Apple Intelligence, packed into iOS 27 — and the scope of changes goes well beyond last year’s introductory rollout. From a Siri that actually remembers your conversations to real-time voice translation on calls, the Apple Intelligence iOS 27 features represent a fundamental shift in how iPhones handle AI. Developer betas are already live; here is everything confirmed so far.
Siri 3.0: Persistent Memory and Cross-App Actions
The biggest headline is Siri 3.0, which finally delivers on a promise Apple has circled for years: a voice assistant with genuine memory. Siri now retains context across separate conversations, so you can say “remember when I asked you about our Paris trip?” and pick up exactly where you left off days or weeks earlier. No more repeating yourself every session.
More importantly, Siri 3.0 can now take actions across any app installed on your device — not just Apple’s own apps. If a developer exposes the right hooks, Siri can draft a post in a third-party social app, reorder items in a task manager, or interact with a banking app using natural language commands. Apple is positioning this as the true beginning of an AI agent on the iPhone.
Live Translation in FaceTime and Phone Calls
Perhaps the most visually striking feature in iOS 27 is Live Translation for FaceTime and standard Phone calls. Apple is offering real-time voice translation across 12 languages — and the translation plays back in a synthesized version of your own voice, not a robotic default. Speak English; the other person hears Spanish, French, or Mandarin in a voice that sounds like you.
The technology relies on on-device voice cloning combined with Apple’s translation models. Apple says the latency is low enough to feel like a natural conversation. One important caveat: Live Translation requires an A18 chip or newer, which means iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max owners — still on A17 Pro — will miss this specific feature even though they retain access to most other Apple Intelligence updates.
Writing Tools 2.0: Your Personal Voice, Everywhere
Writing Tools launched with iOS 18 in limited contexts. With iOS 27, Apple is extending them to every text field across the entire system — including third-party apps. The new headline capability is Match My Style, which analyzes your past emails and messages to learn how you naturally write, then generates suggestions that actually sound like you rather than a generic AI assistant.
Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarize all return, now faster and with better context awareness. For users who write frequently on iPhone — journalists, marketers, remote workers — Writing Tools 2.0 is likely to become one of the most-used features in the entire update.

Image Playground Goes Photorealistic — and Genmoji Gets Animated
Image Playground, Apple’s built-in AI image generator, is graduating from cartoon illustrations to photorealistic output. Apple has not detailed which underlying model powers this upgrade, but demo images shown at WWDC 2026 showed significantly more detail and realism than the original sketchy-style generations. The Image Wand tool inside Notes has also been improved, making it easier to turn rough sketches into polished visuals inline.
On the lighter side, Genmoji — the personalized emoji generator — now produces animated versions. You can send animated Genmoji as stickers directly in iMessage, giving the feature a practical everyday use case beyond static reaction images.
Privacy Gets Stronger: More Tasks Stay On-Device
One of the quieter but more significant improvements in the Apple Intelligence iOS 27 features is an expanded on-device processing footprint. Apple’s A19 chip — expected in the iPhone 17 lineup — includes Neural Engine upgrades that allow larger language models to run locally. The practical result: more of your requests are handled entirely on your device without being routed to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers.
For privacy-conscious users, this matters. Apple has always emphasized that Private Cloud Compute is auditable and does not retain data, but running entirely on-device eliminates any cloud touchpoint. Tasks like Summarize, Writing Tools suggestions, and most Siri queries are expected to qualify for full on-device processing on A19 hardware.
Priority Notifications 2.0: Smarter Interruption Logic
Last year’s Priority Notifications feature sorted alerts based mostly on sender history. iOS 27 upgrades that logic to read the actual content of a message and determine urgency in context. A text from an unfamiliar number saying “your flight is delayed” will be flagged as time-sensitive even if that contact has never messaged you before. Apple says the analysis happens entirely on-device.
Device Compatibility
Apple Intelligence iOS 27 features require an iPhone 16 or later, an iPad with an M2 chip or later, or a Mac with M1 or later. iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max retain access to most Apple Intelligence features — including Siri 3.0, Writing Tools 2.0, and Priority Notifications 2.0 — but are excluded from Live Translation due to the A17 Pro chip’s Neural Engine limitations. Earlier iPhones and iPads will not support Apple Intelligence at all.
Before the update arrives, make sure you back up your iPhone before updating to iOS 27 — major iOS releases occasionally cause data issues on older devices, and a clean backup takes minutes to set up.
Release Timeline
The iOS 27 developer beta is available today for registered developers. Apple is expected to open a public beta in August 2026, with the full release arriving alongside the iPhone 17 launch in September 2026. Some Apple Intelligence features — Live Translation in particular — may ship as post-launch updates in October or November, following Apple’s established pattern of staggered AI rollouts.
The full iOS 27 update will also bring hardware-level improvements to the camera system; for a look at the camera improvements coming alongside iOS 27, that explainer covers what the new iPhone 17 sensors are expected to deliver.
Apple Intelligence iOS 27 features include Siri 3.0 with persistent memory, real-time Live Translation in your own voice, Writing Tools 2.0 with Match My Style, photorealistic Image Playground, and stronger on-device privacy — all arriving with iOS 27 this September.
